Cocoa Beach is located on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Banana River Lagoon on Florida's Central East Coast. The presence of NASA's Kennedy Space Center in the midst of nearby Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge seems strangely incongruous, yet the area is the nation's best breeding ground for the bald eagle and other endangered wildlife species. Port Canaveral is home to five cruise-ship companies, including the Disney and Carnival Cruise lines. There is also an array of seafood restaurants and an exciting nightlife scene in the area.
