Visitors' guide to Cocoa Beach's attractions, restaurants and hotels
Local Time
Cocoa Beach is located on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Banana River Lagoon on Florida's Central East Coast. Six miles of soft, sandy beaches, warm breezes and a river shoreline make this a favorite destination among surfers and fishing enthusiasts. World-renowned Ron Jon's Surf Shop is located one block from the beach; its 52,000-square-foot, multi-level store welcomes 2.4 million visitors annually. The Banana River Windsurfing Resort has the perfect location on Banana River because of the area's shallow waters and warm winds. The presence of NASA's Kennedy Space Center in the midst of nearby Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge seems strangely incongruous, yet the area is the nation's best breeding ground for the bald eagle and other endangered wildlife species. Port Canaveral is home to five cruise-ship companies, including the Disney and Carnival Cruise lines. There is also an array of seafood restaurants and an exciting nightlife scene in the area.
